Use Google Drive media with the Fast Transcriber API

Queue a publicly downloadable Google Drive audio or video file through source_url.

Transcribe shared Drive media without downloading it in your server

When a Drive file is intentionally public and downloadable without Google authentication, submit its share URL directly. Use direct upload for private files retrieved through your authorized Drive integration.

Public file shares

Use a Drive link for one downloadable audio or video file.

Unified contract

Drive media uses the same source_url field as social video.

Private-file alternative

Authorized clients can download privately, then use direct upload.

Common output

The completed text and segment schema stays source-independent.

From request to transcript

A predictable sequence you can reuse in server applications, automations, and internal tools.

  1. 01

    Submit one public URL

    Send the media URL as source_url with a server-side bearer key.

  2. 02

    Store the job location

    Read the job ID and Location header from the 202 Accepted response.

  3. 03

    Retrieve the result

    Poll with bounded backoff until the status is completed or failed.

Make the request

Examples use the production API origin and an environment variable for the secret key.

Request
curl --include --request POST https://fast-transcriber.com/api/v1/transcriptions \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $FAST_TRANSCRIBER_API_TOKEN" \
  --header "Content-Type: application/json" \
  --data '{
    "source_url": "https://drive.google.com/file/d/FILE_ID/view?usp=sharing",
    "speaker_diarization": false
  }'
Keep credentials server-side
Never expose a Fast Transcriber API key in public browser JavaScript, a mobile bundle, source control, or a prompt.

Requirements and boundaries

  • The shared file must be downloadable without a Google sign-in.
  • The link must resolve to an audio or video file rather than a folder or ordinary document.
  • Restricted organizational files should use an authorized download plus direct upload.
  • Expiring links must remain valid until the worker has fetched the media.
